Play Therapy and Theraplay
An evidence-based therapy for children that utilizes the child’s natural language, play! Developmentally children process life experiences differently than adults. This dynamic therapy style utilizes play, reflections, real-time feedback and non-verbal techniques to boost the child or adolescent’s confidence, sense of self, and ability to communicate feelings and needs. Often children can get overwhelmed when trying to communicate needs which can show up in big-emotions and behavior challenges. Play therapy allows for a “professional feelings expert” to help your child learn how to communicate these needs effectively, making life better for everyone.
My sessions with children involve directive and non-directive strategies to increase regulation and positive relational experiences. We play games, utilize imaginative play, make crafts, or just talk! Although some things are planned, your child is in control of the session and I manage the tempo.
Throughout my time with your child we will be meeting every 6-8 sessions to touch base, check in on our therapy goals, and provide space for parent coaching where I can give feedback and support. I am a firm believer that the parent or caregiver knows the child the best! By working together, we can both help your child both in and outside of the office.
These sessions are 45 minutes long
Talk Therapy
Talk therapy allows for me to utilize open and honest discussion to help uncover and better understand life’s stressors. Being a teen can be tricky, maybe their having problems with friends or family, experiencing anxiety or depression, experimenting with substances, processing a divorce, engaging in self-harm behaviors or whatever life is throwing at them. My job here is to provide them a safe space to show up as their authentic self and assist in exploring their inner world in a relatable and compassionate way. I am directive, but will work with my clients to create a plan that they’re on board with to help them take steps to healing.
This is where I utilize Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Neurobiology, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
I provide parent consultations to assist parents in troubleshooting challenges that arise within the family navigating parenting.
These sessions are about 50 minutes long
Parent Coaching
You don’t have to do this alone. Parenting can be full of joy, fun, mess, struggles, and everything in between. It can be helpful to have someone to turn to to ask questions and troubleshoot behaviors. In these Adult Only sessions we will be able to do just that. We identify and build upon your strengths to help accomplish your goals.
I have experience working with parents and caregivers who have children experiencing anxiety, depression, oppositional behaviors, ADHD, neurodevelopmental disorders, aggression (verbal and physical), and school issues, among others.
These sessions are 60-90 minutes and on an as-needed basis and a summary of the discussion and resources is provided after.
